About

In the next six weeks, we will provide you with different tools to support your recovery. These techniques, though they may seem unusual at first, are used by professional athletes to recover from injuries and improve their performance. The HIPS program is carefully designed based on the latest scientific research, so each tool will help you on your path to better health and well-being. By participating in this program, you will learn to use these strategies in your recovery and gain the knowledge and confidence to succeed.

In the HIPS Program

you will learn skills to help you recover from hip pain

  • Value-Based SMART Goals

Setting goals aligned with your values is essential for guiding your hip treatment and measuring progress. Clear, achievable goals will demonstrate the progress you’re making and help you to live the life you want.

Effective goal setting follows the SMART criteria:

    Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound

  • Progressive Muscle Relaxation

Progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) is a technique designed to help individuals reduce anxiety and stress through the systematic tensing and relaxing of different muscle groups in the body. The process involves focusing on one muscle group at a time, typically starting from the toes and working up to the head or vice versa.

  • Pain Education

Pain education empowers individuals to understand their pain, reducing fear and anxiety. This knowledge fosters control and effective coping strategies, helping differentiate between acute and chronic pain for better treatment decisions. It encourages active self-management, enhancing overall well-being and improving quality of life by viewing pain as manageable rather than threatening.

  • Deep Breathing

Deep breathing effectively manages pain by promoting relaxation and reducing stress. Focusing on slow, deep breaths activates the body’s relaxation response, lowering muscle tension and discomfort. Integrating deep breathing into daily routines and home exercise programs can offer relief and improve emotional well-being, making it a valuable pain management tool.

  • Coping Thoughts

Developing coping thoughts can help us to manage stress and emotional challenges in our lives. We can use our coping thoughts during difficult moments and this will help us break out of old, negative thought patterns that are unhelpful for recovery. Finding the right coping statements can enhance resilience and promote overall well-being, helping us navigate difficult situations more effectively.

  • Problem Solving

Problem solving in hip recovery involves identifying behaviors that are holding you back and developing solutions specific for you and your life. In HIPS you will learn to adapt your individualized treatment plan by understanding what is getting in the way of your success and brainstorming solutions. This dynamic approach requires constant reassessment and adaptation to ensure progress and optimal recovery.
